If you thought your mobile phone was only good for making calls, taking pictures, listening to music, sending text messages, playing games….is there anything these things can’t do?
Certainly the ability to make payments using your phone is not among a shrinking list of applications beyond the capacity of cell phone technology.
This is video footage from Royal Bank of Canada and Visa Canada that shows a pilot program the companies have launched in Ontario.
For people who understand how this stuff works, the companies said in a statement:
“mobile devices will be embedded with Near Field Communication (NFC) contactless chips that will enable users to make purchases using the Visa payWave feature just as they would with a contactless payment card.”
RBC and Visa said the pilot will be completed in 2008.
